The Loong Week

This email is being sent from a place with very crummy service so it will
send at its own earliest convince. No idea when that will be.
Oh my goodness.
So yeah I guess I kinda have this week and last week I need to talk about.
This has been the most absurd week of my entire mission. Well, my companion
went home :( (he hasn't slept in like 2 months) (he's been sleeping now
though!). I got emergency transferred and am now in a trio! Yayy! I'm with
Elder Vetterli and Elder Halvorsen. These two are the two most silliest
guys I've ever met. Like for real. This is insane. I'm so tired.
So yeah on Tuesday morning, I had to pack up and move to the Plum Grove
house, or as we call it, the "Homer House" named such for its signature
Homer Simpson poster. It's technically in a city called Cleaveland, but all
the English folks call it Plum Grove. The Hispanics call the neighborhood
"Los Terrenos, Houston". To paint a bit of a picture of Los Terrenos:
It is a series of parallel dusty concrete roads with a lot of empty space.
The was a forest here, but it got clear cut. There aren't any stoplights,
because they didn't want to waste money on power. Instead, theres a lot of
roundabouts. The roundabouts usually have 6-8 roads connecting to them. 3
north, 3 south, 2 east-west. The roads just run parallel to the next
roundabout, with "subdevelopments" in between (there is no development,
just trailers and single houses) Do not be deceived, it takes FOREVER to
get around in here. We live in almost the middle, and it takes like 15
minuetes to get to any main road. The entire area is filled with dogs, we
have termed "zombie dogs". They roam around looking for something, anything
to eat. They arent just skinny, they literally look like they came out of a
warzone. They keep their distance for the most part. Crime is a bit of a
problem (our house got broken into last transfer) (well, not "broken". They
walked in. The door was left unlocked.). The reason the area is called Los
Terrenos is because it's entirely owned by a development company by the
same name. They I guess figured out a way to sell land super cheap to
immigrants, and so like probably more than 90% of the population is
hispanic. Promised land. Which would be why across both New Caney and Plum
Grove we have 20 recent converts. Thats a lotta people to juggle.
Especially when half of them are half an hour away.
But yeah I now cover both New Caney (old area) and Plum Grove! So fun! The
work has been cool, we are teaching a lot of neat people up here, but not
really anyone that I've met yet. We haven't had a whole lot of chances to
work yet. More on that:
So besides getting emergency transferred, we had Zone Conference last week,
interviews, and, of course, our AC broke so we all had to move. Again. We
moved into the apartment right next to the apartment where I was living
before, so all in all 3 apartments in one week. Well, as of yesterday, the
AC is up and running again so we're up here again! Phew. So busy. Hopefully
things will start to settle down and we can start to work again. Oh yeah
also our district only has 5 people in it, 2 companionships. Teeny tiny.
Goodness gracious that was a long summary. Anyway, scriptural thought time:
I was thinking about something. Specifically, how the Law of Moses was
"Fulfilled" by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
And in my search, I found this baller quote from a random Ensign article
from 1983 about what that means:
Under the gospel of Christ, murder, adultery, and dishonesty are still
prohibited, and the formal requirements of the Law are still essentially in
place; but the demand of the Law of Moses has been expanded, has been
filled to its fullest extent. Where there is no hatred or greed, there can
be no murder; where there is no lust, there can be no adultery. With the
coming of Christ, the ethical portion of the Law had not been abolished; it
had been caught up by, included in, and expanded to a broader application
its intention, its potential as an ethical standard, had been fulfilled.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ fulfilled the law moses by making it IMPOSSIBLE
to even get close to it. It entirely encompasses it. It's like concrete
around rebar. I was thinking of other things that have been "fulfilled".
One big one that came to my mind was the covenant of baptism and the
covenant of the endowment.
Pretty neat
Anyway to kinda wrap up this email today was temple pday. It was good
endowment. We went to a cute little free art museum. After, we went and saw
cars, after we went to a museum of illusions. A fun day!
