Hello,
How have you been?
I've been here, chillin. Not too hot yet, which is nice. Pretty rainy haha.
I don't have a whole lot to report for this week, and I'm tired, so I'm
basically just going to do a spiritual thought.
We had a Zoom devotional last night, as we do every Sunday. We talked about
the gift of the Holy Ghost. They posed us the question, what do you need to
do to keep the holy ghost with you always? And well, frankly, it's pretty
simple. You keep your covenants you made at baptism. Or, if you've made
more covenants, those covenants. Sometimes we forget that once we are
endowed or sealed, more is expected from us. When we make more covenants,
the expectations are higher. When we don't meet those expectations, the
Spirit cannot dwell as strongly within us. But for now, I want to focus on
the baptismal covenant. What exactly are those covenants?
Good thing we have Preach My Gospel (the missionary handbook) to help us!
In Chapter 3 of PMG, it outlines the 4 "lessons" we teach. Lesson 4 is
titled, "Becoming Lifelong Deciples of Jesus Christ". This lesson is
focused entirely in breaking down the baptismal covenant, and how we
fulfill our covenants.
Here are the parts it outlines:
Our Covenant to Be Willing to Take upon Us the Name of Jesus Christ
Our Covenant to Keep the Commandments of God
Our Covenant to Serve God and Others
Our Covenant to Endure to the End
(See also Mosiah 18)
So, when we do these 4 things, we will have the spirit to be with us
always. Some church tasks fulfill multiple parts of this covenant, such as
partaking of the sacrement or doing service.
What do these parts mean to you? Have you considered what it means to "take
upon yourself" the name of Christ? Your last name is His last name! What do
you do to honor that noble family heritage?
Well on Friday this week I went to court for a speeding ticket (I didn't
realize I was in a school zone :( ). It went okay I hope. Besides that, not
much else this week.
I hope you all are doing well and I will talk to you next week.
