LETTER 005 — MONDAY, 26 AUGUST 2024 · week 10
Broadgüey
Hello, America!
Gosh, I REALLY need to do better at sending these earlier haha. I'm writing
this at 10:30pm. Definetly should have started working on this earlier.
Pdays just fly by so fast, haha. But before my stuff, a scripture!
Alma 29:9:
I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not
glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea,
and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of
God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.
That's something I've been working on this week, trying to find Joy in my
work. I love the words of Alma and how he says that other people and
bringing them on to Christ is his joy. He doesn't just say this is part of
his joy, this is my joy. That's pretty cool. I also really like how Alma
talks about his glory is serving his Lord. Whenever I hear the words this
is my glory. I think about Moses 1:39, which is a very cool scripture,
about God's purpose. God's glory is to glorify us. We can achive that
purpose by glorifying Him. I also really like the word instrument in this
verse because you can think of instrument in one of two ways, the first
being a tool for medical procedures and the second being something you play
music on. I like thinking about the word instrument in both of these ways
because they're both meaningful. For the first it's meaningful that you can
be an instrument like a scalpel because you can perform very precise things
through the hand of God. If you're like a musical instrument, you can
proclaim loudly of the glory of God and how you can fulfill his purposes
for you. Sorta like a piano, which I've been trying to remember how to play
this week. Frankly I'm shocked how well I can still read sheet music. I
probably havent taken piano lessons since I was in 7th grade haha!
Thats the pensamiento espiritual for the week, on to the happenings!
The first thing I wanna talk about is we have someone on date!!! I actually
haven't met her yet because she went on date when I was doing an exchange
in a different area. Oh yeah, that was another thing this past week. I got
to do an exchange, which means I got to pack up my sleeping stuff and spend
a night with a different elder in a different area. I got to go with our
zone leader, Elder Paul, to his area. That was super duper fun. We also had
zone conference on Thursday, which is basically a meeting with 3 of the
zones in our mission to discuss what we can do better as missionaries of
Jesus Christ. The main theme of the conference was CONFIDENCE. Confidince
is super important to have as a missionary because without confidince, you
can't really lead people. If we can't show our friends we belive they can
be baptised, why should they belive they should? As missionaries, we hold
forth the ensign of the Kingdom of God, and if we let the banner fall, how
can people know what army you fight for? Hold your banners high. Have
confidince in your message. The Spirit will do the rest of the work.
This Pday was also pretty neat. We got to play soccer in some Houston rain
(which is to say I couldnt see anything and I had to change underwear 3
times today because of how soaking wet my car seat was), play mini golf (In
soaking wet shoes because stiff never dries here), and just chill at the
church. I'm working on some trivia for a trivia night I wanna host for the
missionaries in my district so if you have any good trivia questions email
me.
Its been an amazing week. I love it down here, everyone is so Christian and
so, so many people are so ready for the gospel. We got to meet with one of
our friends that we've been trying to contact for like 3 weeks now this
week too which is amazing. He's more than ready for baptism, but he has
some legal stuff to work out before he can get baptised. His story seems
pretty crazy from the Spanish I could understand though haha.
Well party people, I'm getting pretty sleepy now and I think I've done a
good job with this email. I need to chunk out time this week to respond to
some emails so we'll see if that happens or not. Please enjoy your week and
thanks for reading my email. I love all of y'all. More next week.
Photos!!!
A friend from HEFY in Peru took us out to dinner on Tuesday which was
amazing. I ran into him at the temple the week before and President Schmutz
gave us permission to go out to dinner with them, which was awesome!
